Why he might be annoying:

    His name is tricky to pronounce if you aren't familiar with the Japanese language.
    His NCAA eligibility came into question, as some schools felt he wouldn't be culturally acclimatized to the United States before his freshman year started.
    He opted to forego his senior season at Gonzaga to turn pro.
    He was virtually unknown by American basketball fans, prior to the 2019 March Madness tournament.
    He was relegated to a bench role with the Wizards after Wes Unseld, Jr. took over as head coach.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is of Japanese and Beninese descent.
    He was the first Japanese born player to be taken in the first round of the NBA Draft.
    He played both baseball and basketball growing up, before pursuing the latter full-time.
    He was the first Japanese born and trained player to compete in the NCAA March Madness tournament.
    He earned NBA All-Rookie Team honors during his first year with the Wizards (2019-20).
