The Resume

    (September 10, 1975-May 15, 1979)
    Pilot: April 30, 1975
80 episodes originally ran on ABC
    Cast:
David Soul as Det. Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson
Paul Michael Glaser as Det. Dave Starsky
Bernie Hamilton as Capt. Harold Dobey
    Antonio Fargas as Huggy Bear

Why Starsky and Hutch might be annoying:

It opened up a can of worms in the way of 'cop buddy' films.
Capt. Dobey was just a window dressing authority figure used to yell at S&H about 'unorthodox police work,' how his 'badge was on the line' because of them...blah, blah, blah.
Huggy Bear was a stereotypical jive talkin' police snitch whose lines usually started with 'Word is out on the street...'
They had to endure the whole 'Are they gay?' analysis.
Soul used his clout to make the cheesy one hit wonder record 'Don't Give Up On Us' (1977).
Glaser was in perpetual contract disputes with creator Aaron Spelling.

Why Starsky and Hutch might not be annoying:

The show was inspired by two undercover New York City detectives from the film 'The Super Cops (1974),' starring Ron Leibman and David Selby.
Once Ford Motors won the contract to provide all vehicles for the show, they made 1500 limited edition Gran Torinos (Starsky's car). These are now hot collectors' items and many nostalgia buffs have replicated the 'coolest car of the mid '70s.'
The show was consistently in the Top 10 in Nielsen ratings during its first two seasons.
Nosy church groups and anti-TV violence cults stuck their 2¢ in about senseless carnage, bloodletting, etc, etc, etc.
Midway into the third season, Soul was in a serious skiing accident that made it hard for him to move. Remaining episodes of the season had him often sitting due to the constant pain he was in.
It was remade into a successful box office movie starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson (2004).
