Why he might be annoying:

After the success of his earlier films, Friedkin was expected to become a highly successful director. However, after making many critical and financial failures, he has yet to again achieve that success.
During filming of 'The Exorcist,' he went to extraordinary lengths to instill proper terror. He fired off guns behind the actors and reportedly slapped one actress across the face before rolling the camera. He went to the lengths of having Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn put into harnesses and yanked violently.
He directed an episode of 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' and was chastised by Hitchcock for not wearing a tie.

Why he might not be annoying:

After seeing 'Citizen Kane,' Friedkin became infatuated with Orson Welles and decided to become a director.
He is modest about his directing abilities, stating: 'By the time a film of mine makes it into the theaters, I have a love-hate relationship with it. There is always something I could have done to make it better.'
He was married to actresses Jeanne Moreau and Lesley-Anne Down.
