Founded the American Birth Control League, the predecessor of Planned Parenthood

Why she might be annoying:

She was a convicted felon (for violating postal obscenity laws).
She fled to Europe for a year to avoid severe criminal penalties.
Her supporters called her 'Quixotic.'

Why she might not be annoying:

H.G. Wells said of Ms. Sanger: 'When the history of our civilization is written, it will be a biological history, and Margaret Sanger will be its heroine' (1931).
She was born into an Irish working-class family.
Her mother died after experiencing 18 pregnancies and 11 live births in her life.
Contraceptives were disguised as 'French' products and 'feminine hygiene' methods before she came along.
She self-published and was jailed for distributing the newspaper 'The Woman Rebel.' The article 'What Every Girl Should Know' gave basic contraceptive and sexual health information.
It took until 1965 (a year before her death) for the Supreme Court to strike down a law that prohibited the use of contraception, even by married couples.
She had three children, two husbands, many lovers and lots of friends in her life.
Lots of beautiful women can enjoy sex when they want, in part because of Ms. Sanger's efforts.
