She was pegged a lesbian for an on screen kiss with actress Nicola Stephenson, on Brookside (1995).
The kisses garnered many fan letters (mostly from females), and rumors in the tabloids, that eventually caused her character to be killed off.
Her character Beth and herself, actually became British gay icons.
