The Resume

    (October 4, 1892-May 27, 1957)
Born in New York City, New York
    Children's book author and illustrator
Other author's works that he illustrated include 'The Story of Ferdinand' by Munro Leaf (1936), 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' by Richard and Florence Atwater (1938), 'The Sword in the Stone' by T.H. White (1939) and editions of Mark Twain's 'The Prince and the Pauper,' Charles Dickens' 'A Tale of Two Cities' and John Bunyan's 'Pilgrim's Progress'
Wrote and illustrated 'Ben and Me' (1939), 'They Were Strong and Good' (1940), 'Rabbit Hill' (1944), 'Mr. Twigg's Mistake' (1947), 'McWhinney's Jaunt' (1951) and 'The Great Wheel' (1957)

Why he might be annoying:

After the success of ‘Ben and Me’ -- a retelling of the life of Ben Franklin through the eyes of his pet mouse – he repeated the formula in ‘I Discover Columbus,’ ‘Mr. Revere and I,’ and ‘Captain Kidd’s Cat.’
He named his house ‘Rabbit Hill’ after his book.
Modern editions of ‘Rabbit Hill’ edit the character Sulphronia, a black cook, to make her less of a ‘mammy’ stereotype.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in an army camouflage unit during World War I.
He became the first (and, through the end of 2017, only) person to win the two top awards in children’s lit: the Caldecott Medal (for ‘They Were Strong and Good,’ 1941) and the Newbery Award (for Rabbit Hill, 1945).
He said, ‘I have never, I hope, insulted the intelligence of any child. And with God and my publishers willing, I promise them that I never will.’
