    Her marriage to stockbroker Logan Metcalf lasted less than a week (1928).
    She walked out of her Fox contract when the studio refused to let her choose her own director (1929) and would not work in movies for three years.
    She was charged with assault after shooting at her ex-lover, millionaire Stanwood Murphy, after he jilted her to marry someone else (1943).
    At one point, she was so poor that she and her mother went through a trunk of her unopened fan mail in hopes of finding quarters that fans used to send to pay for photographs.

    She began dancing in her youth to correct her posture.
    She was dubbed 'The Most Beautiful Girl on Broadway.'
    She made a successful initial transition to sound, starring in Fox's first talkie, 'Mother Knows Best.'
    She made a financial comeback in California real estate, making more money that she had during her entire film career.
