Why she might be annoying:

She tried to shave eight years off her age, claiming 1922 as her birth year.
For much of her career, she was typecast as a maid: 'I have been in a lot of pictures. However, most of them consisted of my opening doors for white people.'
She met her second husband, bus driver Charles Burris, when she stepped in front of his bus and almost got run over.

Why she might not be annoying:

She and Burris were married for 50 years.
She was a chorus girl at the Cotton Club, where she met and became lifelong friends with Dorothy Dandridge.
She was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe as Best Supporting Actress for 'Imitation of Life.'
