Why he might be annoying:

Sportscaster Brian McFarlane said that he 'started a thousand fights and never won one.'
His record as head coach of the Maple Leafs got worse each of his three seasons.
His friendship with Punch Imlauch was strained when he initially said that he would resign as the Maple Leafs' assistant general manager when Imlauch was fired as coach (1969), but stayed when he was made a vice-president.
According to 'How I Met Your Mother,' his name is a Canadian sex act. (Specifically, an 'Old King Clancy' is a 'Sacramento turtleneck,' but with maple syrup.)

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first NHL player to play all six positions in a game (March 31, 1923).
The Maple Leafs paid a then-record $35,000 to acquire him.
Maple Leafs owner Conn Smythe gave him much of the credit for the team's first Stanley Cup: 'We were building a great team with many fine players, but Clancy made it all stick together.'
He was a fan favorite in both Ottawa and Toronto.
