He guided the Blue Bombers to a berth in the Grey Cup game, while serving as the interim head coach when Cal Murphy was forced to sit the season recovering from heart transplant surgery.
He spoke fondly of his time in Canada and became a Canadian citizen later in life.
He was inducted into the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame (2009).
