Why he might be annoying:

    He abused cocaine.
He was an alcoholic in the waning years of his career.
It took him multiple trips to rehab before he finally kicked his drug and alcohol abuse habits.
    He looked like Ricardo Montalban.
His other nicknames include 'The Caesar of Boxing' and 'J.C.' (initials also used to identify some other guy with a slightly larger following).
He cheated on his wife with Salma Hayek.
It is largely assumed that he was named after Cesar Chavez, but he was born before Chavez became a household name and it was probably just a coincidence.
One of his first fights was won with a knockout that was ruled a disqualification (his manager got the ruling overturned, making him the winner by default).
His 1990 World Boxing Championship win over Medrick Taylor is still heavily debated (the fight was stopped with 2 minutes remaining).
His 1993 World Boxing Championship draw with Pernell Whitaker remains one of the most controversial decisions in boxing, inspiring a Sports Illustrated cover with Whitaker and a caption reading 'Robbed!'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He kicked Manny Pacquiao's ass.
He had one of the strongest chins in boxing history.
He is considered to be the greatest Mexican fighter of all time.
Mike Tyson called him one of the top 5 greatest fighters of all time.
He was born into poverty and grew up in an abandoned railroad car with his five sisters and four brothers.
He has had the distinction of winning 6 world titles in 3 weight divisions.
He was awarded the The Ring Lightweight Championship in 1988.
He ranked #24 on ESPN's 50 Greatest Boxers Of All Time.
He ranked #50 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 Greatest Punchers of All Time.
He also ranked #18 in Ring's greatest fighters of the last 80 years (2002).
He holds the longest undefeated streak in boxing history, 13 years.
He holds records for the most successful consecutive defenses of world titles (27), most title fights (37), and most title-fight victories (31).
He was inducted in the prestigious International Boxing Hall of Fame for the Class of 2011.
