Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of school at sixteen.
He suffered from depression.
He smoked constantly.
He was a very hard drinker and was often drunk.
He was notorious for using drugs, including heroin.
He was a womanizer.
He had a very bad temper and often lashed out against his wife and band-mates.
He was often in trouble with the law due to his drug use and drunkenness.
He overdosed on heroin and when his friends managed to revive him by giving him a tracheotomy, he got mad at them and remarked that 'he was higher than all of you guys.'
When angry he sometimes smashed his instrument against trees.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a world-renowned, incredibly talented sax player.
He is credited with inventing the cool, smooth style of bossa-nova jazz.
He collaborated with many other jazz greats.
John Coltrane said 'We would all play like Getz if we could.'
He was able to play many instruments with ease.
When he was a teen, he would always share his pay from musical gigs with his parents.
