Why he might be annoying:

He was part of a family of six children.
He never played football until his high school senior year.
He only played one game for Creighton because its remaining games were cancelled due to the Spanish Flu pandemic.
His only season as a head coach at NC State was a disaster.
He had two 9-loss seasons as an NFL head coach.
He coached the 49ers to a loss to the Cleveland Browns in the 1949 AAFC Championship Game.

Why he might not be annoying:

Notre Dame head coach Knute Rockne had him as a big contributing player of the football team's undefeated 1919 season.
He won All-American honors as a starting tackle in his last season at Notre Dame.
He coached the Santa Clara Broncos to two straight Sugar Bowl victories over Louisiana State University and coached in one of them by a telephone as he was sick (1936-37).
He was the 49ers' very first head coach and coached notable players including Frankie Albert, Y. A. Tittle and Hugh McElhenny.
He was able to have Norm Van Brocklin on the Eagles and they went on to retire as NFL Championship winners.
He retired from coaching after the Eagles won the 1960 NFL Championship as the only NFL head coach to guide a team to beat a team that was coached under Vince Lombardi in a postseason game.
His NFL Championship victory was praised by Vince Lombardi as he said, 'That right there is a good man...an honest man.'
The field at Stevens Stadium at Santa Clara University is named in his honor.
His record for being the oldest NFL Championship winning head coach stood for nearly four decades until the St. Louis Rams won in Super Bowl XXXIV as the team was coached under Dick Vermeil.
