Why New Orleans Pelicans might be annoying:

Their team is named after one of the least intimidating birds.
They were named the Pelicans after the team's owner, Tom Benson wanted to bring the Jazz nickname back, but was denied by the Utah franchise.
They aren't the first franchise to use the Pelicans moniker, as it was initially used by a minor league baseball franchise in the early 20th century.
They stake claim to being a 2002 expansion franchise, which occurred as a result of the NBA retconning the Charlotte Hornets and Bobcats as one entity.
They flaunt the NOLA abbreviation in their team marketing like it's a badge of honor.
Despite drafting Anthony Davis with the first overall pick in 2012, they didn't build a solid core around him, which prompted Davis to demand a trade to Los Angeles.

Why New Orleans Pelicans might not be annoying:

They changed their name from the Hornets, in order to better represent the region in which they play in.
They relinquished the Hornets nickname to the Charlotte Bobcats, as the new ownership felt that the name was irrelevant to the City of New Orleans.
They are named after the state bird of Louisiana, and continue to use the fleur-de-lis symbol that is recognized in the state of Louisiana.
After a few years of instability as a result of the league's takeover of the franchise, they were purchased by New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, which assures the long-term viability of the franchise in New Orleans.
In an attempt to better reflect the name and region, they changed their color scheme from teal, purple and gold to navy blue, red, gold and white.
After the Hornets relocated to New Orleans, the first team they played against at home was New Orleans' former NBA team, the Jazz.
They relinquished the Hornets nickname, history and records of the Charlotte years to the Bobcats which now technically makes them the NBA's youngest franchise.
They drafted Zion Williamson with the first overall pick in 2019, which helped cushion the blow of losing Davis not seem so bad for the fanbase.
