Religious Figure

The Resume

    (540-March 12, 604)
    Monk/Pope
Holy See Ambassador to Constantinople (579-590)
    65th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church (September 3, 590-March 12, 604)
Also known as 'Saint Gregory the Great'

Why he might be annoying:

Like most religious figures of his day, very little is known about his early life.
He was born into a very elite patrician Roman family.

Why he might not be annoying:

Being nicknamed 'the Great' is probably as good of a title anyone can get.
When he became Pope, he spoke down of the eliteness of the papal throne, and promoted the spiritual, contemplative life of Jesuits and other monks.
He refused to be the puppet of lower Vatican officials, and made decisions based on what he felt was the right thing to do.
He was the first Pope who began his career as a monk.
Theologians compare Pope John Paul II to him.
