Why she might be annoying:

Her husband's nickname for her was 'Bunch.'
When her father died in 1931 her husband took over as church pastor (nepotism).
Though an advocate for civil rights she was a polar opposite of her son - reserved and soft-spoken.
As she grew older she gained significant weight.

Why she might not be annoying:

She earned a teaching degree at Hampton University but had to quit teaching once she married as required by the rules of the era.
She was active with the International League for Peace and Freedom, the NAACP and her local YWCA.
She was president of the Ebenezer Baptist Church Women's Committee between 1950 and 1962.
She taught spirituality and self-resepect to her three children and was close to Martin his entire life.
Besides the assassination of her middle son she had to endure the death a year later of her youngest son Alfred Daniel who died in a swimming pool accident at age 38 (July 1, 1969).
Crazed gunman Marcus Wayne Chenault, a 23-year black man from Ohio, killed her and a church deacon not because of who she was (he didn't know) but 'because she was a Christian and all Christians are my enemies.'
