Musician

The Resume

    (February 25, 1947- )
    Born in Mineola, New York
Replaced John Cale as bassist in the Velvet Underground (1968-73)
Sang lead on ‘Candy Says,’ ‘Who Loves the Sun,’ ‘Oh! Sweet Nothing’ and ‘New Age’
Was also a member of the band American Flyer (1976-78)
Recorded the solo album ‘Live in Seattle’ (2002)

Why he might be annoying:

He led the Velvet Underground during its critically derided post-Lou Reed years.
When Reed was asked in a radio interview ‘Where’s Doug Yule,’ he replied, ‘Dead, I hope.’ (1972)
Reed and Cale vetoed his participation in the Velvet Underground reunion tour (1993).
He was omitted when the Velvet Underground was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1996).

Why he might not be annoying:

Velvet Underground drummer Maureen Tucker said, ‘He’s one of those people who I admire, who can do all sorts of different things. He’s a good cook, he can sew, he’s a good singer, he’s a good musician. A great musician, actually.’
On tours, he would take over lead vocals whenever Reed strained his voice.
Apparently there were no long-term hard feelings with Reed, since he played on Reed’s solo albums ‘Sally Can’t Dance’ (1974) and ‘Coney Island Baby.’ (1975)
After American Flyer broke up, he retired from playing music full-time, becoming a cabinetmaker and a builder of violins.
