Founded the penny arcade, Automatic Vaudeville Company (1903)
Founded the penny arcade, People's Vaudeville Company (1905)
Founded Loew's Consolidated Enterprises (1919), which later became Loew's Incorporated
Opened 144 Loews Theaters, most notably, the Loews Chinese Theater in Hollywood

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname was Max.
He dropped out of school when he was nine.
He once held a job making fur.
He named his theater corporation after himself.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was worth more than $30 million at the time of his death (1927).
Although he had the power to do so, he refused to monopolize the theater industry with exclusives and fixed prices, which would have made it difficult for the independent theater owners to compete.
He purchased Metro Pictures and Sam Goldwyn's production company, then negotiated an agreement with Louis Mayer to consolidate the companies into Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (more commonly known as MGM).
Before his success, he worked with the soon to be Paramount founder, Adolph Zukor, in the fur business.
He used to have films produced specifically for his movie theaters to avoid film rental costs.
He owned 144 theaters by the time of his death (1927).
In 1998, Loews Theaters merged with Cineplex Odeon Corporation, to become Loews Cineplex.
