Why Kokomo, Indiana might be annoying:

    Its mayor, Henry C. Cole, was shot to death by a sheriff’s posse, with the sheriff claiming that Cole had been planning to rob a local flour mill (September 19, 1881).
    It was the site of the largest Ku Klux Klan rally ever, when 200,000 members and supporters witnessed D.C. Stephenson’s elevation to Grand Dragon (July 4, 1923).
    It has been struck by 18 tornados since 1950, the deadliest one causing 25 fatalities (April 11, 1965).
    Teenager Ryan White was driven out of town after contracting HIV (1987).
    The Beach Boys were not singing about it in the song ‘Kokomo.’

Why Kokomo, Indiana might not be annoying:

    The discovery of natural gas led to a population and economic boom (1886).
    It was a manufacturing center for the early American auto industry.
    It officially adopted the nickname ‘City of Firsts.’
    Inventions that debuted in Kokomo included pneumatic rubber tires (1894), stainless steel tableware (1912), the mechanical corn picker (1920), canned tomato juice (1928), and the push button car radio (1938).
    Aretha Franklin did sing about it in ‘First Snow in Kokomo.’
