The Resume

    (April 25, 1949- )
    Born in Paris, France
    Often called DSK
10th Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (resigned May 18 2011)
Member of the French Socialist Party
Charged with assaulting a chambermaid at his Manhattan hotel suite (May 14, 2011)
Freed on bail and put under house arrest (May 19, 2011)
Released from house arrest without bail (July 1, 2011)
Rape charges dropped (August 23, 2011)
Reached an undisclosed settlement with the maid in the sexual assault case (December 10, 2012)

Why he might be annoying:

Many French pundits are more concerned with the ‘humiliation’ of his imprisonment than the assault charges (dismissed by one journalist as ‘the skirt-lifting of a domestic’).
French feminists claim he is symptomatic of widespread tolerance for sexual harassment in France.
He may have visited swingers’ clubs.
He has jeopardized the efforts of the IMF to solve Europe’s financial crisis.
He had an affair with an IMF subordinate.
Novelist Tristane Babon said he assaulted her in 2002, likening him to ‘a rutting chimpanzee.’
He was held for questioning by the French police for his possible involvement in a prostitution ring (February 21, 2012).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the first French politicians to have a blog.
He was a popular choice throughout Europe for the position as head of the IMF.
Some think he is the victim of a smear campaign led by Nicolas Sarkozy, whom he planned to run against in 2012.
His ‘perp walk’ may have compromised his right to presumption of innocence.
He was under suicide watch while jailed at Rikers Island.
His wife is standing by him and paid his million dollar bail.
He blamed much of the 2000s worldwide recession on greedy bankers, saying ‘the poorest-as always-pay the most.’
The rape case was weakened after an extensive background check of his accuser (June 30, 2011).
