Her instructors at the school thought she was a white girl with a tan, not realizing she was actually multi-ethnic.
Her hard-driving ambition may have caused her to suffer a heart attack in her 20s.

Why she might not be annoying:

Due to her fair skin, she was initially forced to 'pass' as Norwegian to get modeling assignments.
Many consider her to be the first woman of color to be a top model in the United States.
The Grace Del Marco Agency was one of the only places non-white models could get work in the fashion industry.
Diahann Carroll, Cicely Tyson and Richard Roundtree were mentored by her.
The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) honored her for contributions to the fashion world.
