    His producer Quinton Claunch said, 'His first priority was a marijuana cigarette, a drink, or a woman. That would take precedence over his music.'
    He was bipolar.
    He would sometimes lapse into a near-catatonic state.
    He spent the 1980s shuttling between living in his sister's apartment and institutions.

    He began performing with gospel groups at age nine.
    He had a powerful baritone voice.
