    Born in Montgomery, Alabama
Founded Dreyfus funds (1951) and Dreyfus Health Foundation (1988)

Why he might be annoying:

His mother described him as 'a nice boy, but lazy.'
He got his first job in a brokerage because his father had secretly paid 20 weeks of his salary in advance.
He suffered depression that he was convinced was caused by too much 'electricity' in his body.
After allegedly being cured 'overnight' by the anti-epilepsy drug Dialantin, he spent $100 million on a crusade to promote the drug as miracle cure-all.

Why he might not be annoying:

When he ran the Dreyfus fund, his returns beat the next best mutual fund by over 100 percentage points.
His firm ran an offbeat series of ads, such as one portraying Christopher Columbus as 'America's first speculator.'
He was a golf player who won 18 amateur championships, a thoroughbred owner who was twice named Turf Writer's 'Best Breeder of the Year' and an expert bridge player.
