The Resume

    (November 12, 1923-February 6, 1997)
    Born in Boston, Massachusetts
Birth name was Ernest Earle Anderson
    Disc jockey and television announcer
Known for his portrayal of Ghoulardi
Hosted 'Shock Theater' on WJW Channel 8 on Cleveland television (1963-66)
'Voice of ABC' during the 1970s and 1980s
Catch phrases (as Ghoulhardi) were 'Stay Sick!' and 'Turn Blue!'
Announcer for The Carol Burnett Show, Animaniacs, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and America's Funniest Home Videos

Why he might be annoying:

    He married three times.
    His acting abilities were poor.
He was fired as a Providence DJ for riding his motorcycle through the station's halls.
He denigrated the films he presented, encouraging his own viewers to change the channel.
He liked to watch the opening of his live show while nursing a martini at a bar next door (he would run into the studio and slap on his fake beard with only minutes to spare).
He liked to detonate plastic action figures and model cars (sent in by fans) with firecrackers on-air just to piss off show executives, once nearly setting the studio on fire.
Mike Douglas refused to book him on his syndicated talk show - or to even speak to him - because Anderson regularly lampooned him on his show.
He abruptly retired the Ghoulardi character in 1966, despite scoring seventy percent of the late-night audience in Cleveland, to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles (although stress from an ongoing divorce and clashes with station management were also factors).

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was one of the first television horror movie hosts.
He organized the Ghoulardi All-Stars sports teams, which played as many as 100 charity contests a year, attracting thousands of fans.
Drew Carey liked to wear Ghoulhardi T-shirts on his show.
The Drew Carey Show episode 'See Drew Run' was dedicated to his memory.
His son, Paul Thomas Anderson, dedicated his film, 'Boogie Nights,' to his memory.
He was posthumously inducted into the Horror Host Hall of Fame (2011).
More than a decade after his death, radio stations still license his voice for promotions.
He said: 'If I'm out in public and I feel like being recognized, I just raise my voice and say... The Looovvee Boat' (he was known for his unique phrasing of the show's title).
