His sister was a back up singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd and helped get him the job in Skynyrd.
His biggest musical influence is the Beatles.
His songwriting and guitar skills were a major contribution to the band.
He died in a plane crash with Ronnie Van Zandt and his sister (October 20, 1977).
He is the subject of the drive-by-trucker's song 'Cassie's Brother.'
Other than Ronnie Van Zandt he was the only member of Skynyrd to write lyrics and sing during a recording session.
