Why he might be annoying:

    He was fined $250 by Commissioner Bowie Kuhn for complaining that Kuhn was too 'gutless' to stop Gaylord Perry from throwing spitballs (1973).
    He hit two home runs for a terminally ill fan, who first learned he was terminally ill watching the broadcast of the game (August 8, 1977).
    He dismissed allegations in the Mitchell Report of steroid use by Yankees Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite.
    He appeared in ads for Skoal tobacco and even recorded a country song, 'Skoal Dippin Man.'

    He said his 'greatest thrill' was playing alongside Mantle on 'Mickey Mantle Day.' (September 18, 1965)
    The day after delivering the eulogy at Thurman Munson's funeral, he batted in all five runs in 5-4 victory over the Orioles (August 6, 1979).
    He served as president of the Baseball Assistance Team which grants money to former players and other baseball figures in need.
    He and Mickey Mantle raised money for victims of the Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City.
    He received the Baseball Writers of America 'You Gotta Have Heart' award for his battle against cancer (January, 2008).
