Why he might be annoying:

He is a paranoid schizophrenic.
He abused cocaine.
He believed he was the Dalai Lama.
During his two-year marriage to occupational therapist Gale Wenk (1983-85), he twice pulled a gun on her and accused of her being a Soviet spy.
Former employee Andy Metzger sued for $555,000, claiming du Pont had made sexual advances on him and then fired him (1986).
He ordered three black wrestlers to leave the training facilities on his estate, telling them it was now 'a KKK organization (1995).'
He fatally shot Olympic gold medal winning wrestler David Schultz without any provocation (January 26, 1996).

Why he might not be annoying:

A trained ornithologist, he discovered and named two dozen new bird species.
He was a major financial benefactor of amateur wrestling.
The jury concluded that the murder was not premeditated.
Schultz's widow won $35 million in a wrongful death suit.
