Wrote the essays 'Some Consequences of Four Incapacities' and 'The Fixation of Belief'

Why he might be annoying:

He was the founder of pragmatism (the belief that truth is whatever is expedient).
He lost his only teaching job because his second wife was a gypsy and he lived with her before they married.
He lost his job working for the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey because of budget cuts.
He spent the rest of his life dirt poor, living off of the money that he made from odd jobs and handouts from his friends.

Why he might not be annoying:

He read Immanuel Kant's 'Critique of Pure Reason' when he was 13.
While at Harvard, he co-founded 'The Metaphysical Club' with Oliver Wendell Holmes and William James.
He was a true polymath, writing papers on logic, math, most areas of philosophy, economics, chemistry, psychology, anthropology, and the history of science.
He was one of the greatest logicians in the history of philosophy.
Some believe that he single-handedly destroyed Cartesian philosophy.
When he died, he left about 80,000 pages of unpublished works.
