    Although long, his reign was not very successful politically or militarily.
    His coronation had to be redone after the pope ruled the first one had not been performed correctly.
    He taxed his subjects heavily.
    He ordered Jews to wear a ‘badge of shame.’
    He was captured by revolting barons (1263) and reduced to a figurehead for two years.
    He appointed many of his wife’s relatives to positions of power.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was considered very pious.
    He renovated and expanded Westminster Abbey.
    He summoned the first English parliaments.
