Why she might be annoying:

Her mother was a KGB major.
She was married four times, divorced three times.
She said she could not remember her first marriage, to fellow poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was expelled from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute for supporting Boris Pasternak.
She was expelled from the Soviet Writers Union because her poetry was too 'emotional' and 'sensual.'
She said, 'There is only one honorable reason for writing poetry: you can't do without it. When a young person comes to ask me, 'Should I, should I not, write poetry?' I say, 'If there's a choice, don't.''
Joseph Brodsky said she was 'one of the few Russian poets living in Russia who by some miracle have succeeded in preserving their purity, conscience and independence.'
