Why he might be annoying:

    He shares his name with a journalist.
    He joined Gary Hart's first run for the Democratic ticket during the 1984 US presidential elections.
    The Washington Times reported that his administration had issued a press release touting a new $28 million highway interchange leading from Interstate 795 to one of St. John's properties in exchange for campaign contributions to his gubernatorial campaign.
    An anonymous user, later revealed to be Maryland Democratic Party official Ryan O'Doherty, accused O'Malley of infidelity against his wife Katie.
    When 'Face the Nation' host Bob Schieffer asked him if the country was better off than it was four years ago in light of the 2012 presidential elections, he bluntly replied, 'No.'
    However, he backtracked his answer when Republicans attempted to pounce on his response.

    His father served as a bombardier in the United States Air Force in the Pacific theater during World War II.
    He is of Irish, German, and Dutch descent.
    Under his mayoral tenure, crime in Baltimore dropped 37 percent.
    He helped enact a voter approved ballot initiative that legalized same-sex marriages in Maryland (2012).
    He was the inspiration for fictional Baltimore mayor Tommy Carcetti in the series 'The Wire.'
    Esquire magazine named him 'The Best Young Mayor in the Country' in 2002.
