    Umpired in three American League Championship Series (1969, 1972-73) and five World Series (1957, 1960, 1966, 1971, 1977)
    Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (1999)

Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of the University of Scranton.
    He turned to umpiring after a shoulder injury kept him from playing baseball.
    He called the forfeits in two of baseball’s most notorious games: Ten Cent Beer Night (June 4, 1974; game forfeited to the Texas Rangers after an uncontrollable mob of Cleveland fans rushed the field) and Disco Demolition Night (July 12, 1979; second game of a White Sox-Tigers doubleheader forfeited to the Tigers because the field was too badly damaged).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was blinded for several days after being hit by shrapnel during the Battle of the Bulge.
    He said his most memorable game was when Bill Mazeroski hit the only home run to end a Game 7 in World Series history (October 13, 1960).
    He had the rule book memorized by paragraph and section.
    Yogi Berra noted, ‘He kept the game under control, but he would listen to you when you had a beef.’
    He quipped, ‘This must be the only job in America that everybody knows how to do better than the guy who is doing it.’
