The Resume

    (May 22, 1957- )
    Birth name was James Guckert
Repeatedly received daily passes to cover White House briefings and press conferences (2003-05)
Drew attention after asking President George W. Bush about the Democratic Party leadership, ‘How are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?’ (January 26, 2005)
Employed by the website Talon News
Columnist for the Washington Blade (2005-06)
Wrote the book ‘The Great Media War’ (2007)

Why he might be annoying:

He was initially given White House press passes despite not working for any news organization.
Talon News had no physical office or newsroom and was owned by GOPUSA, leading to suspicions that it had been specifically created as a news organization Gannon could represent to justify continuing to receive White House press passes.
He was rejected for a Congressional press pass by the Standing Committee of Correspondents, who ruled that Talon did not qualify as a legitimate independent news service (April, 2004).
By receiving a series of one-day press passes from the White House for two years, he avoided the extensive background check required for a permanent pass.
His evidence for Democrats being ‘divorced from reality’ included Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid talking about soup lines; however the remarks had actually been made by Rush Limbaugh in a satire of Reid.
His history of softball questions and lack of journalistic credentials led to suspicions that he was a plant for the Bush administration.
After he came to national attention, it was discovered that he had posted naked pictures of himself on several gay escort service sites under his real name.
He claimed that he had used a pseudonym as a reporter not to hide his background but because his real name was hard to pronounce and spell. (Yeah, ‘Guckert’ is a real stumper.)

Why he might not be annoying:

He edited his high school newspaper, so he wasn’t completely devoid of journalistic experience.
He appeared on the TV show ‘Lie Detector,’ where he passed a polygraph test when he denied being a White House plant.
He reportedly earned $200 per hour as a gay prostitute, so he presumably was good at it.
