The Resume

Why Sherlock might be annoying:

The BBC turned down the original pilot, which had reportedly cost £800,000.
There were large gaps between series: over 6-1/2 years, only 13 episodes were produced.
It had a rivalry with Elementary a contemporaneous series that also brought Holmes into modern times.
Given modern British gun control laws, a self-proclaimed 'high-functioning sociopath' and a veteran with PTSD probably could not run around London armed the way Holmes and Watson do on the show.
In the fourth series, Holmes' previously unmentioned sister became a major character.
The fourth and final series received much more mixed reviews than the first three series.

Why Sherlock might not be annoying:

Cumberbatch and Freeman had great chemistry.
Homes was given more monologues starting in the second season to capitalize on Cumberbatch's 'beautiful voice.'
Episodes were 90 minutes long, so thirteen episodes is not quite as paltry as it first sounds.
Sales in the UK of Arthur Conan Doyle's original Holmes stories increased 180% after series one aired.
The third series became Britain's most watched drama in over a decade.
It won a BAFTA for Best Drama Series (2011).
