    It was initially founded as a telegraph station along the Carlton Trail route.
    Its beginnings were in part to the Northwest Rebellion of 1885.
    It has extremely cold winters and hot dry summers.
    Its economy heavily relies on the potash sector, as it is in close proximity to numerous mines.
    It became known worldwide in 2018, following the events of a fatal bus crash involving its junior A club.

Why Humboldt, Saskatchewan might not be annoying:

    It is home to the largest German settlement in the province of Saskatchewan.
    It is nicknamed 'The Heart of the Sure Crop District,' as a result of its favorable soil conditions for growing crops.
    It was an integral communication spot during the Northwest Rebellion between Sir John A. Macdonald and Louis Riel.
    The buildings in the downtown area were built to resemble historic German architecture.
    It is the hometown of legendary NHL goaltender Glenn Hall, which the city renamed its major east-west arterial road through the city in his honor.
    It is home to the historic Humboldt Broncos Junior A hockey team, which developed many notable hockey players during its history.
    It drew plenty of notable dignitaries to the city in wake of the Broncos bus crash, which in turn served as a hub for national unity across the country.
    The term Humboldt Strong served as a rallying cry for the community in the wake of the tragedy.
