Religious Figure

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He originally planned to evangelize the Holy Land, but a war between Venice and the Turks intervened.
He was canonized nearly four centuries after Xavier and Loyola.
He was made a saint through the process of 'equivalent canonization' that bypassed the usual miracle-working requirements.
A writer for the National Catholic Register noted, 'No Jesuit church is complete without some triumphalistic mural or statuary of Loyola or Xavier. But Faber? He is usually one of an indistinguishable line of black-robed Jesuit extras.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was known for his piety, humility and ability to establish a dialogue with anyone.
He suggested the Counter-Reformation would get better results from eliminating corruption in the Catholic Church than through theological debates with the Protestants.
Fellow Jesuit Simon Rodrigues said he was 'endowed with charming grace in dealing with people, which I must confess I have not seen in anyone else.'
His motto was 'Take care, take care never to close your heart to anyone.'
