Their original name was Huang Chung and they were originally a trio.
As the band was breaking into the charts, listeners kept asking if they were Chinese.
After their fourth effort ('The Warmer Side of Cool') failed to match the sales of their previous works, they broke up.

Why they might not be annoying:

They added the catch phrase 'Everybody Wang Chung Tonight' to pop culture.
They were instrumental in the New Wave sound that became popular in the 80's.
Their singles 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight' and 'Let's Go' still remain popular at parties, election campaigns and 'That 80's Show.'
