The Resume

    (July 9, 1940-May 8, 2012)
    Born in Rock Island, Illinois
    Died in Aurora, Colorado
    Founder of NationsWay Transport
Majority owner of the Colorado Rockies (1993-2005)
President of the Colorado Rockies (1993-2001)

Why he might be annoying:

He is called the original owner of the Rockies, when in reality he was awarded the team in the wake of an embezzlement scandal at Phar-Mor, which cost original founder Michael Monus his reputation, and eventually the team.
He notoriously overpaid veteran players who were on the downside of their careers.
He oversaw a Rockies team that was embedded in mediocrity throughout the tenure of his ownership.
His company, NationsWay Transport filed for bankruptcy, which put a dent on his financial situation.
His personal financial issues forced him to turn the Rockies over to the Monfort brothers six years after NationsWay was declared bankrupt.
His financial situation, along with the bankruptcy of NationsWay prompted members of the Teamsters Union to picket outside Coors Field in protest.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a self-made millionaire, as he started his own trucking company with a loan from his father and three trucks, and gradually turned it among one of the largest trucking companies in North America.
He pulled off the 11th hour bid following the collapse of Michael Monus's ownership, by securing investors to keep the Rockies franchise in Denver, before the team played a single game.
He wasn't afraid to make a splash during the early years of his ownership of the Rockies.
He secured the bid that brought the MLB All-Star Game to Denver (1998).
He was considered a fair negotiator who had a keen sense on how to operate a business.
He was involved in various charities that benefitted cystic fibrosis, as his oldest son was diagnosed with the disease at birth.
