Had recurring roles as John Dunaway in thirtysomething (1989-90) and Watty White in 'Nashville' (2012-13)
Appeared in the films 'Postcards from the Edge' (1990), 'My Girl 2' (1994), 'Purgatory' (TV movie, 1999), and 'Deadline' (2012)

Why he might be annoying:

The Souther Hillman Furay Band broke up largely because of his hostility: 'I'm not a great team player.'
Described as an 'inveterate womanizer,' he had affairs with Linda Ronstadt<3152Z>, <640>Stevie Nicks,, Joni Mitchell, and Judee Sills.
He abused cocaine during the 1970s.
He said, 'The closest I came to being famous was during the 'You're Only Lonely' period, and I really didn't like that much, frankly.'
He never smiled on his album covers because he wanted to discourage strangers from approaching him.

His father was an agent for MCA, once resulting in Victor Borge babysitting J.D.
He and Glen Frey were housemates and members of the band Longbranch Pennywhistle (1969-70).

He was one of the first artists signed to David Geffen's Asylum Records label.
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2013), cited as a 'principal architect of the Southern California sound.'
