He was so in love with Lord Alfred Douglas, that he testified against Douglas' father, leading to his own arrest for sodomy.
He smoked.
He was married with two children, yet carried on affairs with men.
The term homosexuality came into use because of his trial.
He dressed eccentrically.
He went to a formal affair dressed as a cello.
Why he might not be annoying
He was a gifted and brilliant playwright.
He defended his art against the courts who tried to label him based on his writings.
He was imprisoned for two years for gross indecency.
He became a hero to the gay movement.
He said: 'There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.'
In spite of being labeled 'homosexual,' he truly believed that love was love and sex was sex... regardless of whether it was with woman or man.
He founded the Aesthetic movement.
His plays were more popular than Shakespeare in his day and are still produced world wide.
He was the father of the modern comedy.
He said: 'Men can be idolized... women must be adored.'
He died broke in a Paris hotel at forty-five.
