The Resume

    (October 4, 1981- )
    Born in Mogadishu, Somalia
    Raised in Baidoa, Somalia
    Later based in Minneapolis
Member of the United States House of Representatives (5th district of Minnesota, 2016– )
Member of ‘The Squad’ (US Congressional group also consisting of Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez)

Why she might be annoying:

    She regularly denounces Israel.
Her daughter was a key organizer in the American chapter of the ‘school strike for climate’ (skipping classes for demonstrations against global warming).
She was hospitalized after a concussion in a brawl at a (2014, Cedar-Riverside) precinct caucus — which one City Council member warned her boss to keep her out of.
A Republican state representative successfully called her out for using campaign funds on unrelated expenditures (2018).
Senator Rand Paul proposed buying her a plane ticket to her homeland to ‘learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia.’ (Hey, she was born there and fled the Somali civil war!)

Why she might not be annoying:

Her father and grandfather would raise her, then age two (and the youngest of seven), upon her mother’s death.
As a teenager in the States, she would serve as her grandfather’s translator at caucus meetings.
She began her professional career as a community nutrition educator.
She is the only member of ‘the Squad’ not to be born in the States.
As a counter-response to the 2019 Trump rally involving chants of ‘send her back,’ she invited Nancy Pelosi to Ghana to honor the 400th anniversary of the American slave trade.
