Killed 16 and wounded 6 Afghan civilians in Kandahar (March 11, 2012)
Pleaded guilty in exchange for prosecutors not seeking the death penalty
Sentenced to life without parole (August 23, 2013)

Why he might be annoying:

While working as a stockbroker before joining the army, an arbitration panel found that he and his employer had committed financial fraud in handling a retirement account.
While stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he was charged with criminal assault after fighting with a casino security guard; charges were dismissed after he attended anger management classes (2002).
He was arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident after running off the road and hitting a tree. Witnesses said he was disoriented and smelled of alcohol (2008).
He took illegal steroids and noted, 'It definitely increased my irritability and anger.'
His victims included nine children, some as young as two years old.
He burned several victims' bodies, an act considered desecretion in Islam.
Asked about his motive, he said 'There's not a good reason in this world for why I did the horrible things I did.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His former platoon leader called him 'one of the best soldiers I ever worked with.'
He was wounded twice in Iraq.
He was treated for a 'traumatic brain injury' after an accident in which his Humvee rolled over (2010).
His attorney suggested that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder that Army doctors failed to diagnose so he could be re-deployed.
