Why he might be annoying:

    He was a high school dropout despite the good grades he recieved.
    He despised Alex Smith for beating him in the 1910 U.S. Open.
    He lost the British Open championship qualification in his first try (1911).
    He was criticized for showing off towards the crowd and other players following his victory in the 1913 Shawnee Open.
    He showed up etoo late to play in the 1914 British Open.
    He suffered a breakdown at age 23 and spent the rest of his life in mental hospitals and rest homes or living with his family.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the first golfer representing the U.S. to win the U.S. Open more than once.
    He first became U.S. Open champion at age 19, and (as of 2020) remains the youngest player to win the event.
    In his second U.S. Open victory, he broke par more than 72 holes as he was the first golfer to do so.
    He was among one of the top golfers in the world in the first half of the 1910s.
    His U.S. Open accomplishments spawned golf interest for the American people.
    He watched the likes of Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino compete at the 1971 U.S. Open before he died a few months later.
