Why he might be annoying:

    He left Depeche Mode after their debut album, saying that he found their material a little dark for his tastes and that he frequently found himself at odds with the other three band members.
    He broke up Yaz after two albums and the Assembly after their debut single.
    He wrote three songs for the Olsen twins direct-to-video movie 'Winning London.' (2001)

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was inspired to play synthesizers by hearing OMD: 'That's when I thought to myself, oh my God, electronic music actually has some emotion.'
    He wrote Depeche Mode's first three singles, including their breakout hit, 'Just Can't Get Enough.'
    He has a huge collection of vintage analog synths.
    His deadpan demeanor onstage contrasts memorably with Andy Bell's hyperactivity.
