Hockey Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname was ‘Tree.’
He was oblivious to the rigours of NHL training camp, as he showed up to his first one with the Flyers wearing no socks and shoes not intended for long distance running.
His death was preventable as he was kneeling on a seat when the boat he was in hit a massive wave on the water.
He was thrown overboard and had his neck and jugular vein severed by the boat’s propellor.
His death occurred months before he was expected to be a first time father.
His death occurred mere months after Steve Chiasson‘s, which made him the second active. NHL player to die during the 1999 calendar year.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was willing to learn and adapt to the North American game.
He successfully ran a six-mile course at the Flyers preseason fitness testing, despite not wearing the proper attire on his feet (and didn’t complain, despite the fact he wound up with blisters).
His determination impressed Roger Neilson enough to give him a roster spot during the 1998-99 season.
He and two teammates were attending a power skating camp in Kelowna, British Columbia at the time of his death.
The Flyers took his #5 out of circulation during the 1999-2000 season and sported decals with his number on their helmets.
Following his death, the Flyers and their farm affiliate organized a benefit game in his honor with the proceeds going to his son’s education fund.
