Doctor

The Resume

    (July 30, 1828-January 9, 1909)
    Born in Lille, France
Physician whose clients included painters Vincent van Gogh, Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Paul Cezanne and Gustave Courbet
Was also a painter and engraver
Signed his works 'Paul van Ryssel'
Subject of van Gogh's 'Portrait of Dr. Gachet' (1890)

Why he might be annoying:

When he was twelve, he jumped from a castle rampart into a moat, permanently damaging his ankle.
Van Gogh complained to his brother Theo, 'He is sicker than I am, I think, or shall we say just as much, so that's that. Now when one blind man leads another blind man, don't they both fall into the ditch?'
Some art critics suggested that the secret behind van Gogh's prodigious output while staying with Gachet is that many of the paintings aren't actually van Gogh's -- instead, they are copies made by the doctor.
His most famous artwork (or at least the most famous credited to him) is a sketch he made of the dying van Gogh.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served on the front lines during the Franco-Prussian War.
After he bought a press and copper etching plates, he shared them with his less well-off artist friends.
Van Gogh eventually warmed up to him, declaring 'I have found a true friend in Dr. Gachet, something like another brother.'
He was the foremost collector of Impressionist art of his day.
    Van Gogh's portrait of him sold for a then-record $82.5 million (1990).
