The Resume

    (March 9, 1923-January 7, 2016)
    Born in Pau, France
    Worked for Balenciaga (1948-61)
Established his own couture house (1961)
    Known for futuristic, youth-oriented styles
Popularized trouser suits, miniskirts, hip huggers and go-go boots

Why he might be annoying:

Coco Chanel said he designed for toddlers instead of women.
His company’s website claimed, ‘Thanks to him, women discover pants in 1963.’ (Which would have been news to, say, Marlene Dietrich, who had been wearing pants three decades earlier.)
He had a running feud with British designer Mary Quant over which one of them invented the miniskirt.
He refused to acknowledge the fashion world passing him by, saying ‘The world’s creativity stopped in 1970. If they want to create something new, they have to go back to 1970s Courreges.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He served as a pilot during World War II.
His clothes were designed for ease of movement.
He said, ‘you don’t walk through life anymore. You run…. Clothes must be able to move too.’
    His designs were frequently copied.
He designed the staff uniforms for the Munich Olympics (1972).
