    It was the site of the Fort Pueblo Massacre (December 23-25, 1854).
    It sustained serious damage when the banks of the Arkansas River overflowed, nearly wiping out the city altogether (June 3, 1921).
    It is heavily polluted, as a result of being home to several steel plants.

    It earned the slogan 'Home of Heroes,' due to the fact it had the most recipients for the Medal of Honor per capita then anywhere else in the United States.
    It is the site of the Colorado State Fair.
    The Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, which was built in conjunction with the Pueblo Reservoir is located here.
