The Resume

    (December 11, 1911-May 10, 2006)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Birthname was Valmond Maurice Grossman
Directed over 50 feature films, including 'The Runaway Bus' (1953), 'The Quatarmass Xperiment' (1955),' 'The Day the Earth Caught Fire' (1961), 'Jigsaw' (1962), 'When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth' (1970), 'Confessions of a Window Cleaner' (1974) and 'The Boys in Blue' (1982)

Why he might be annoying:

    He anglicized his surname.
His first film was an educational short about sneezing.
    He was a flashy dresser.
He was willing to work in just about any genre, including soft core porn.
He said he'd made too many films and some of them should have been destroyed.

Why he might not be annoying:

When his parents divorced he was told his mother had died.
He reported for film magazines while still in his teens.
Obituaries invariably noted that while he made some of Britain's worst films, he'd also made some of its best.
When he mocked a French director's film, the director challenged him to write a better screenplay himself--which he did.
At his best he could make an excellent film on a minuscule budget.
Joe Dante said of his science fiction films such as 'The Quatermass Xperiment' that he 'brought a lot of intelligence to a genre that sorely needed it.'
