Played for FC Dynamo Kyiv (1993-99; 2009-12), A.C. Milan (1999-2006; 2009) and FC Chelsea (2006-09)
Manager for the Ukraine national team (2016-21) and Genoa C.F.C.

He failed his dribbling test, in order to gain entrance into a prestigous athletic academy in Kyiv.
His name is hard to spell and pronounce.
He is good friends with longtime Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.
He named one of his sons after Michael Jordan, and another one Rider.
He shares his name with a fellow politician and journalist in his home country.

He was considered one of the top lethal strikers in the world during his prime by soccer pundits.
He was the scoring leader in the Ukrainian Premier League (1999), Ukrainian Cup (1995, 1998), UEFA Champions League (1999, 2006) and Serie A (2000, 2004).
He is the third Ukrainian born player to win the Ballon d'Or Award (2004).
He left the Ukrainian national soccer team as the program's all-time leading scorer.
He was credited with developing the Ukrainian national team into a modern powerhouse.
